Here's the firepit at Indian Circle, the place where the villagers meet once a year for a pancake breakfast and where, on the equinoxes and solstices, Women in the Woods meet for tea and crumpets (or so I imagine). At other times it is a place for teenagers to hang, enjoying weed and carving their names in the nearby trees. This photo is from early in the morning, the sun just rising, and poses a mystery. Who placed the four apples, two red and two green? Or were there five apples and someone took one? I think of an environmental artist, Andy Goldsworthy, who makes elaborate natural arrangements, but this arrangement is more serious and more playful, and so I left it untouched.
